Our first model is the 904M.  This is a medium action model akin to the relaxed, older graphite models of yesteryear.  The 904M is a very smooth bending and casting rod.  Like the L below, it has a very controlled tip.  While John Juracek thinks that these are the two finest 4 weights he has ever cast, he does prefer the 904M to the 904L.  It is a more versatile rod than L and has a bit more casting range as John describes in his blog.  We plan on offering a 3 and 5 weight in this model.

Our second model is the 904L.  The L was inspired by the slow action rods of the late Paul Brown that we love.  This rod is the reason we started this project.  It is a very smooth, slow actioned rod.  If you compare this rod to a Paul Brown rod, this rod has a firmer, more controlled tip.  As such, it will feel a bit stiffer.  We love our old Paul Brown rods, but we prefer the L due to its tip.  It’s the finest 4 weight we have ever cast and is the rod we prefer for technical spring creek fishing with light tippets.   We plan on offering a 3 and 5 weight in this model as well.

Our rods feature a nickel silver pocketed cap and sliding band style reel seat.  Customers are given a choice of the type of wood insert and may select the exact wood insert if they wish.  The wood inserts are 3.25 inches in length. Customers also have a choice of a plain or an etched cap at no additional charge. Please see the Reel Seat page for more information. Additional reel seat options are also available at an upcharge, please inquire. These include custom made double slide band and Bellinger nickel silver down-locking reel seats.

The rods also feature a 6 inch Wells style grip that Paul Brown used on his own rods.  We had a stripping guide made specifically for us which features a silicone carbide ring which is one of the highest performing materials on the market.  The snake guides are Snake Brand’s Universal ECO Lightweight model, which in our opinion, are the finest snake guides on the market.  The rod wraps and the color of the sack also vary based on the model.  The 4 weights have dark red wraps and a red sack, the 3 weights have brown wraps and a tan sack, and the 5 weights have emerald wraps and green sack. We are a production rod company not custom builders but will try to accommodate feasible special requests.

Each rod includes a felt rod sack and a smooth matte black aluminum rod tube.  The rod tube feature a label based on a print from watercolor artist and friend Ted Leonard.  The rods come with a limited 1 year warranty based on manufacturing defects, not a lifetime warranty.  The current rod price is $925 plus shipping. Blanks are available for $380. Our recommended fly lines are the Rio Lightline DT, Rio Technical Trout DT, or any other true-to-weight fly line.

How to Order a Rod

Upfront, we want to mention that we both have day jobs and that this is a fun, side venture for us.  So, we do appreciate your patience.  The interest has been high, so our current wait list for a rod is 2 to 6 months.  If we are able to complete the rod earlier, we will contact you to inquire if this is acceptable.  Blanks may be available immediately depending on the time of the year.

1. Please let us know which model you desire.  Only the 904M and 904L are available at this time.

2. Please select the type of wood insert you would prefer.  The customer may select the exact insert if they wish. Please see the Reel Seat page for more information. Additional options are available including double slide band and down-locking reel seats at an upcharge, please inquire.

3. Please let us know if you would like a plain or etched reel seat cap.

4. Please let us know what models of fly reels you intend to use on your rod as this can affect the sizing of the reel seat’s slide band.

5. No deposit is required.  Payment will be due once the rod is ready.  We accept check, money order, P2P, and PayPal.  A 3% fee will be added for all domestic PayPal transactions.  A 5% fee will be added for all international PayPal transactions. International buyers are responsible for applicable custom and duty charges. Shipping will also be charged for each order.
